More about this rule

The rule in plain language

Austin says its city code requires dogs to be on a leash in public unless a place is specifically designated otherwise. The city's off-leash areas are the exception, not the default.

What to keep in mind

Leash your dog while entering and leaving an off-leash area. Inside one, keep the dog within sight and sound control, remove aggressive dogs immediately, and pick up waste. Posted closures and no-pet areas can still apply.
