More about this rule

The rule in plain language

At a steady circular red signal, stop at the marked stop line, before the near-side crosswalk if there is no stop line, or before entering the intersection if neither exists. After stopping, you may turn right unless a traffic-control device prohibits the turn or a steady red arrow is displayed. The turn remains subject to the right-of-way rules that apply after a stop sign.

What to keep in mind

Ohio also permits a left turn on red from a one-way street onto a one-way street unless prohibited. A steady red arrow normally prohibits the indicated turn; a traffic-control device may expressly permit that turn after stopping. Check the signal, signs, and current law before turning.
