More about this rule

The rule in plain language

At a steady circular red light, stop at the marked stop line or, if there is none, before entering the near-side crosswalk. After stopping, wait until the intersection can be entered safely and yield to pedestrians and sidewalk users lawfully in an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection. You may then turn right unless a posted notice prohibits the turn.

What to keep in mind

Texas also permits a left turn on red when both intersecting streets are one-way and the turn is otherwise allowed. Local or state authorities may prohibit a turn on red with a posted notice. Check the signal, signs, lane controls, and current law before turning.
